Science Olympics, a Science Week tradition, is an awesome relay race that will be held from 12–1 pm on Friday, February 1st at the Abdul Ladha Science Student Centre. Teams of 4 will hop, skip and jump their way to victory and fabulous prizes. Please let Sonia Purewal know if you will be representing CSSS and sending a team by Tuesday, January 29. What: Teams compete in five American Gladiator based games including The Maze, Joust, and the Inflatable Obstacle Course. (Formerly known as The Amazing Maze and The Gladiator Team Challenge)
Who: CoRec teams of 6-10. Form your own team.
When: Teams sign up for a two-hour time slot on either of the two nights, Thursday November 1 - Friday November 2. The following timeslots are available on each night:
6:00pm-8:00pm
8:00pm-10:00pm
10:00pm-12:00am
The top teams in each timeslot will return to the Finals on Friday at 12:00am.

How this works: If you are interested, gather up your friends (from science) and sign up on www.rec.ubc.ca. You’ll need to sign up as a Science team and under CS if you do wish to get reimbursed. For details on reimbursement, please talk to us by emailing [email protected].ca before you sign up.
Welcome to a new school year! Are you looking to stay in shape right from the start? Want to keep healthy and have some fun at the same time? Consider joining intramural teams or sporting events.
Here is a list of some intramural leagues and events with up-coming deadlines.
If you have gathered a enough friends and would like to sign up as a CSSS team on your own, you can get reimbursed.
If you do not have enough people to form a team but you’d still like to join a CSSS team, we have the following intramural teams open to CSSS (or Science students):
Volleyball
Tier 2 Competitive
For all levels of play, beginners encouraged to join!
Non-science imports are allowed, however, each team is allowed a max of 3.
These are not the only teams open. For other sports, if we get enough interest from individuals, separately, then we could start a team just like that. When you send us an email regarding your interest, also send us the following information:
Anyone who wants to sign up for Gladiator should
sign up now at the CSSS cube office…right across
from Dempsters. It’s on November 1st and 2nd and
should be fun.
Here’s the deal. If you and your CS friends want to make up a team for any of the UBC REC intramural leagues or tournaments, the CSSS will subsidize you 3$ for every person on that team.
Day of the Long Boat is coming up, on October 1st and 2nd. The last day to register is Wednesday September 21, and it costs 165$ for a student team. You can register teams of 10-12 in person at the SRC (student recreation centre by the B-line bus loop) OR online at www.rec.ubc.ca.
Once you have registered your team, you can contact [email protected] so that you can get your subsidized portion of the fee back (save your receipts!!).
There are also a bunch of different league sports happening this term which CSSS will also contribute to if you get a full squad of CS’ers out for. For first term the leagues that you can join are:
ultimate frisbee
handley cup soccer
cross volleyball
nitobe basketball
todd ice hockey
bodin ball hockey
dodgeball
flag football
Make sure you check WWW.REC.UBC.CA for registration deadlines because they are coming up within the next week or two!!!! You can also find details here about game times and locations.
REC also offers a wide variety of other activites including dance, fitness, marial arts and outdoor activities to name a few. There are smaller one-time tournaments offered through the year – gladiator, ice wars, pool pandemonium which are also UBER fun, especially if youre looking for that one night of fantastic excitement…
