CUTC Hackathon

Categories: Hackathon

This is one hackathon you can’t afford to miss. Facebook. Microsoft. 800 developers. Energy drinks. Ready? The CUTC Hackathon will be one of the craziest nights of your year, as you build something awesome, get feedback from some of the top people in the industry, and end up with serious prize money. If coding’s not your thing, you can always set up a late-night LAN party instead—snacks are on us!

CUTC Hackathon is going to be hosted at CUTC Infect, Canada’s largest and longest-running technology conference. This means you can combine two events into one and add a couple days of learning about and playing with the coolest tech to your night-long hackathon. You’d best rest up beforehand—it’s going to be a crazy weekend.

This year, we’re going to shake it up from the same boring conference set-up. We let you personalize your own conference experience—from our broad range of breakout sessions to all of our unique workshops, we guarantee you’ll find something worthwhile. You get to decide how to maximize your delegate experience and discover what’s next. We have incredible keynotes lined up, a kick-ass Hackaton, a tech expo that showcases some of Canada’s most innovative companies, plus more!

Iron Hacker

Categories: Hackathon

Launch Academy (startup-oriented co-working space) is hosting the “Iron Hacker” hackathon on Saturday, Dec. 8th. It’s in the mould of Iron Chef, where teams only learn the theme the day of, then have the day to make an app for that theme to present to a panel of judges and peers for a bunch of prizes for whichever team makes the best app. Example themes would be “Viral joke apps”, “one-player games”, or “dating apps”. The theme will also not be specific to any API, so you won’t be limited to whichever companies’ are sponsoring.

Format:

  • Hacker teams of 2–4

  • After registration the morning of the event, the theme of the hackathon will be revealed, and you have until 7pm to work on your hack

  • Use whatever APIs, platforms, or frameworks you like to deliver your hack

  • All presentations must be done on an organizer’s laptop: i.e. you need to demo something live on the internet. Exception: native mobile apps

  • Prizes awarded by judges based on how functional your team’s app is and how well it corresponds to the theme

  • “Iron Hacker” trophy will be awarded based on by peer judging of your team’s app

To keep this developer-centric, we’ve set up a couple hurdles for coders to get through before they can register (shouldn’t be a problem for even novice coders): http://ironhacker.org/

Hope to see you there!

Saturday, December 8, 2012 - 09:00 to 21:00

Apps 4 Climate Action Hackathon

Categories: Hackathon

Apps 4 Climate Action challenges Canadian software developers to raise awareness of climate change and inspire action by using B.C. data in new applications for the web and mobile devices. Aside from over $40,000 in cash and prizes, the contest is an opportunity for talented programmers to get considerable exposure across the country.

To help get the creative juices flowing, SAP is hosting a Hackathon for programmers in the Vancouver area. This is an opportunity for developers to meet, get advice from SAP engineers on data visualization and web services access, see new sustainability solutions from SAP, find collaborators for projects, and start CODING your app for the contest!

Full details and registration details for this free event can be found here.

Look forward to seeing UBC’s talent there!
